Biography
Origins and education
Born in 1967 in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland, Daniel Pittet has lived in Ticino since 2002. He is a freelance photographer, holding degrees in engineering and sustainable architecture. He divides his time between photography and international cooperation projects. He is a member of Visarte, the professional association of visual artists, architects and curators of Switzerland.
His early works explored rural life in Gruyère, the relationship between humans and machines, and the poetic essence of nature. He also collaborated with contemporary choreographers, journalists and scientists, documenting editorial and research projects, particularly in the field of international cooperation in various countries. His work has been featured in several publications and exhibitions in Switzerland, France and China.
International cooperation and documentary work
Since 1999 he has spent years living and working in Asia (Nepal and India), the Caribbean (Haiti) and Eastern Europe (Ukraine), engaging in development, humanitarian and research projects for organizations such as the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland, the World Bank and the Swiss NGO Kam For Sud. He is a member of the Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit since 2022.
Recent Artistic exploration: Esprits de la montagne and Mutants
In 2020, after several years focused on other activities, Pittet returned to photography with renewed creative energy and began working on Esprits de la montagne — a mystical exploration of nature through symmetry and expressive composition. The project was exhibited in Switzerland (Musée gruérien de Bulle) and at the Fuji-Film X- Space Gallery in Shanghai, also published by Slatkine (Geneva) and AS Verlag (Zurich). Building on this artistic vision, he developed Mutanti, a continuation of his research into the expressive power of symmetry in nature. This work is currently on display on the Brissago Islands (2025–2026) and published by Dadò Editore in Locarno.
He is currently working on “Urban Green, an X-ray”, about biodiversity in urban environment as well as on “Shangri-La Reshaping”, an exploration of contemporary urban development in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal
